Some PPP appointees are untouchable
Stabroek News, Tuesday, October 9th 2007

Dear Editor,

I refer to Mr Al Creighton's letter captioned "Like universities
generally UG has never had a formal statutory evaluation system for its
top officers" (07.10.04) which to our dismay is filled with
inaccuracies.

May I remind the public of one of the many claims of Mr. Creighton
e.g., the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guyana was
accredited when it was clearly not accredited.

Mr A Bhulai (The former head of the Department of Chemistry), Dr S
Beharry (Former Senior lecturer in Science), and I (Former senior
lecturer in the Department of Chemistry) have repeatedly asked Mr
Creighton in the press to show documentation for that period (2001
-2003) when the supposed accreditation took place and who accredited
the programme that lacked so many normal standards which are required
of any reputable science department.

Mr Creighton as Deputy Vice Chancellor never responded. The people who
are always part of the accreditation(Head of Department, Senior
Lecturers) deny any such action took place.

Everyone should be wary of Mr Creighton's inaccuracies. We wrote
several letters to the press that Dr. Prem Misir's (who is connected to
the Office of the President (OP), a member of the PPP, attached to
GINA, etc) appointment was another PPP political appointment imposed by
President Jagdeo on UG and advocated that this appointment should be
rescinded immediately--yet Mr. Al Creighton chose to ignore this fact.

Most of these top officers not only at the University but in the public
service operate with President Jagdeo's blessing and presidential
protection. Therefore they can do and concoct whatever they please,
whenever they please.

The public knows that Presidential appointees like Mr Ravi Narine, Mr
James Singh, Mr. Karan Singh, Dr. James Rose, Dr. Prem Misir, and Dr R
Luncheon (just to name a few) operate with impunity and with President
Jagdeo's total protection.

Yours faithfully,

Anand Daljeet
