President meets GMA on log export policy
Guyana Chronicle, 8 August 2007
THE finalisation of a Government of Guyana log export policy was the
focus of talks Monday by the Head of State President Bharrat Jagdeo and
representatives of the Guyana Manufacturing Association.

Meeting the President was GMA’s President Mohabir Singh and
representatives of manufacturing companies in the furniture sector.

Also present at the meeting were Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud
and Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission James Singh.

Consultations on the national policy were held earlier in the year to
garner the views of forestry stakeholders to address issues in the
sector, including the export of logs and supply of raw materials to
manufacturers for value-added activities.

This is part of a process started by government two years ago through
discussions by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, the Forest Producers
Association (FPA) and the Guyana Manufacturers Association (GMA).
