President in talks on log export policy
Stabroek News,

The finalisation of a Government of Guyana log export policy was the
focus of talks that President Bharrat Jagdeo held yesterday with
representatives of the Guyana Manufacturers and Services Association
(GMSA), the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported yesterday.

The GMSA's President Mohabir Singh and other representatives of
manufacturing companies in the furniture sector met the President.

Also present at the meeting were Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud
and Commissioner of Forests James Singh. Consultations on the national
policy were held earlier this year to garner the views of forestry
stakeholders to address issues in the sector, including the export of
logs and supply of raw materials to manufacturers for value added
activities.

This is part of a process that the Government started two years ago
through discussions which included Prime Minister Sam Hinds, the Forest
Products Association and the GMSA.
