China has called for a ban on illegal logging overseas
Kaieteur News, 7 August 2007

Dear Editor,

I do hope that the Asian loggers operating in the forests of Guyana
have taken note of the draft handbook on sustainable forestry intended
for transnational Chinese companies.

This handbook should be useful to the Minister for Forestry in dealing
with the Asian enterprises and in the development of more equitable
arrangements for foreign direct investment, alongside the OECD
guidelines for multinational enterprises.

The website reference for the announcement of the handbook, developed
by the State Forestry Administration of the Peoples Republic of China,
is at URL

http://news.mongabay.com/2007/0711-china.html.

Asian loggers in Guyana should also read ‘China urges responsible
logging overseas' at url =
http://www.illegal-logging.info/item_single.php?

item=news&item_id=2221 &approach_id=.

I expect that the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in
Georgetown will have copies of the handbook which calls for a ban on
illegal logging.
