Council doing good work at Hururu
Stabroek News, Tuesday, December 11th 2007

Dear Editor,

I would like to highlight some of the positive developments that are
taking place within my village, Hururu on the Berbice river.

Please allow me to congratulate the Toshao, Mr Herman Williams (J.P)
and his team of hard working councillors, particularly the treasurer,
Mr Mark Adrian, for being the first village council at Hururu to
publish their quarterly financial report and make copies available for
public scrutiny. You are truly pioneers.

Since taking office in April 2006, notwithstanding minor differences,
the village council has demonstrated its ability to overcome, and some
of their achievements to date are:

1. A new village office.

2. A functioning deep water well. (Even though the running water could
have tasted better).

3. Two television dishes for cable TV were installed and are
functioning (although the project is yet to be completed).

4. A new pavilion was constructed.

5. Two telephones were installed and are functioning.

6. A guard hut was constructed.

7. A waiting shed was constructed (for residents awaiting phone calls).

8. More residents are being given employment by the bauxite company,
sub-contractors and logging companies.

9. Better representation is being made for residents (woodcutters) to
gain better wages for their produce.

10. A resident was sent for CHW (Community Health Worker) training and
should take up such posting by January, 2008.

I beg of you fellow residents to continue to give this village council
your fullest support, for in one and a half year they have done
exceptionally well.

In conclusion, I wish to thank the Honourable Minster of Amerindian
Affairs Mrs Carolyn Rodrigues and her other officers for their
unstinting support to this village council and the people of Hururu as
they develop this village in an atmosphere of brotherhood.

Yours faithfully,

Ezra Kersting
