Whispering Mabel

Whispering Mabel
Guyana Chronicle, 13 September 2007
Welcome to the Feature Page for Thursday, September 13, 2007
*** Mabel cannot help but express agreement with the well researched
and nationalistic sentiments consistently articulated by letter
contributor Jannette Bulkan in her valiant efforts towards instituting
measures to safeguard Guyana’s forestry reserves. Our management must
be spearheaded by high flyers capable of dealing with the experienced
potential investors whose main concern is to maximize their profits and
to minimize capital expenditure.

*** Mabel was reminded by a good friend of long standing about the
times before the advent of the local flour mill and flour had to be
imported. Those were the times when importers of flour were invited to
submit offers with CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) prices conforming
to acceptable specifications provided by the government. So Mabel is
asking the question whether the quality of flour coming into the
country conforms to a minimum quality specification.

*** Well, the tussle is truly on in the Palm Tree party. Team Alexander
does not recognize the newly-elected PNCR leadership. Despite the fact
that enumerated grievances which point to gross disrespect for the
adherence of basic democratic principles, promoting the shameful
exposure in the conduct of their internal elections, Mabel will advise
Team Alexander to remain in the party and continue the good fight from
within, rather than from outside. Ask Joey, Khemraj and Raphael!

*** It must sound hollow, any cry from the Palm Tree party about
undemocratic measures and/or about the propriety of conducting national
elections. Ask team Alexander.

*** It didn’t happen in August so it must be announced in September,
the findings of the United Nations Tribunal on Guyana/Suriname Land of
the Sea dispute. Naturally, Mabel is solidly behind Guyana and hopes
that we are prepared, whatever is the awaited decision.

*** Absent from the family picture which appeared in the Stabroek News
of Sunday, September 9, 2007, was wife Maria. However, Mabel is assured
that she will be at the birthday celebrations. Happy birthday Mark!
