Toshaos meeting billed for October 22-26

Toshaos across Guyana will meet for their Triennial Toshaos Meeting
from October 22 – 26.

This major gathering of all toshaos is funded by the Government of
Guyana and organised by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, according
to Adviser to the President on Governance, Ms Gail Teixeira.

She told a post-Cabinet briefing last Thursday that in addition to
their packed agenda, the toshaos have been tasked by the Parliamentary
Committee of Appointments to Constitutional Bodies, to nominate three
toshaos, one of whom must be a woman, in relation to the appointment of
the Indigenous Peoples Commission.

This nomination of the individuals would assist the parliamentary
committee in moving to the next step in preparing to complete the
nomination process for the IPC.
