Bio-diesel project a good prospect

Bio-diesel project a good prospect
Guyana Chronicle, 8 October 2007
This bio-diesel project using the Jatropha seeds is very interesting
and will undoubtedly prove beneficial to all concerned. I hope efforts
continue to get this project started in the shortest possible time.

However, the suggested idea of importing Haitians into Guyana for
labour duties and thereby providing employment for them should be given
very serious consideration.

While the intention is good to assist our fellow Caribbean nations,
Haitians are "unique" in that they do not assimilate well with others -
they are clannish and when it comes to preservation and maintaining a
clean and litter-free environment, they would find this difficult as
they do not appear to be uncomfortable surrounded by garbage.

Also, they are very fertile in the population sector and will certainly
create another little Haiti in Guyana. A lot of valuable resources
would have to be earmarked to ensure standards are maintained if
Haitians are employed.

In attempting to solve the short-term labour issue, a critical
medium/long-term problem will surface. Therefore, it is suggested that
direction for labour be taken to other Caribbean and/or Asian
countries.

Good luck with the project.
