Do furniture manufacturers have their own logging locations? Guyana
Chronicle, 10 October 2007
I have followed with great interest the current furore over the
performance /conduct of Sawmillers/Loggers and the Guyana Forestry
Commission. I sense that there are investors who may be trying to kill
two birds with one stone as they constantly raise theissue of
efficient use of our forest resources.
While these individuals may indeed be patriotic and genuinely voicing
their concerns I detect that they may be trying to influence the
authorities to take back /cancel leases from existing operators which
may possibly result in some of these agitators or their associates
applying for logging permits in areas where leases have been cancelled.
Can you please use your media to ascertain whether companies (or their
Associates)such as Precision Woodworking , Guyana Furniture
Manufacturing , Shiva Woodworking etc have their own logging locations
and if so have they been extracting their own logs . Also in the event
that they do not have their own logging locations it would be
instructive to find out whether they have applied for permission to log
and if not why not since they have been complaining incessantly about
poor log supply and high prices.
