Effective leaders badly needed at Kwakwani

Dear Editor,

The Kwakwani community is in dire need of sound visionary leaders. Even
though finance is available from a number of agencies our leaders are
unable to access same and whatever they are able to access is wasted.

A lot of money was wasted on the swimming pool from the $100,000 per
month given to the community through a group that claims to represent
the residents. Now the fund from the Guyana Forestry Commission that is
used to do development work is about to be wasted. The leaders have
decided to use this fund to pay to dispose of the community's garbage
and the supervising of same.

The Kwakwani community is considered a depressed community that needs
infrastructure for youth development and proper recreational facilities
-- community centre with IT and pavilion to cater for football and
cricket. The schools need a photocopying machine for exam papers yet
all we can think of is to dispose of garbage.

Why don't these same leaders who are members of the NDC lobby the
residents to pay up their meagre rates and taxes (less than $500 per
year) and think about ways the community can really benefit from the
funds that are made available from these companies and agencies.

Yours faithfully,

Jocelyn Morian
