The National Youth Parliament (NYP) which was convened Monday passed a
resolution urging key players in the international arena to take
serious steps during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in
Bali to adequately compensate countries like Guyana for the
preservation of forests.

The NYP stated that they are concerned about the failure of the
international community to give recognition of countries like Guyana
which have exceptionally good forest management practices unlike many
countries of the developed world.

The members of the NYP committed themselves to taking necessary actions
to address, mitigate and support Guyana’s fight against climate change
and further insisted that stakeholders at both the national and
international level seriously and immediately take all the necessary
measures “to save our planet from the dangers of climate change”.

The NYP said that the scientific evidence indicates that the effects of
climate change can worsen if nothing is done to seriously and
drastically reduce the amount of greenhouse gases which cause global
warming.
