Newspapers must seek answers to troubling issues
Friday, July 20th 2007

Dear Editor,
Although, Stabroek News may not always be right, one thing is clear and that
is at least one paper must constantly question what is happening in Guyana.
We may argue about accuracy but not about seeking answers to troubling
situations.
SN is right to raise questions about the timber industry, the status of a
new saw milling project and whether Miss Janette Bulkan can be seen as
helpful instead of a distraction.
Too many projects seem to be taking too long to be implemented. We need a
project management office to make sure that unnecessary hindrances are not
placed in front of major investments before we lose some of them. We also
need satisfactory, full and timely responses from the proper authorities to
questions raised in the press or by others about these projects and other
important issues, such as crime and corruption in our police and public
services.
Yours faithfully,
(name and address
